It was a slow Sunday afternoon when my sister and I decided to have brunch in this fairly new cafe in KL a try. We were lucky enough to have found a parking space very quickly in the alley behind the cafe.

The entrance up to the cafe itself has made such an impression that got us excited enough to see the inside of it!

I'd say they did a pretty good job with the interior that really lives up to the name of the restaurant!

A great place for some vintage feels portraits!

Linguine Beef Bolognese, The Ham-S.UP Croissant & Latte

Food was amazing and portion was just nice for me as an averagely small appetite eater. The beef bolognese tasted very homey and A++ for the unique presentation!

As for the Ham-S.UP Croissant, it's a new addition to their menu and was told that we were the very first customer to taste it. The dish is made up of croissant, ham, egg, their specialty cheese sauce & salad. The best part about the dish was the croissant which was very flavorful and the entire combination goes along very well.

The staffs were very friendly and even welcomed us to explore the entire place. The cafe is designed with empty and wide spaces with a mezzanine floor upstairs too to host small functions / events / parties.

Will definitely be back!

Sincerely, Mels

I TURNED 23!...

a month ago, but what else is new. Heh. Better late than never!

Beautiful sunset over dinner? Fuego is the place to go, and the place where I was brought to to celebrate my 23rd birthday this year, and my first birthday spent with Ivan.

Our reservation was at 6pm, but got there half an hour earlier. We were led to a waiting area and given a menu should we wish to have some drinks and snacks before the place opens.

At 6pm, we were then led to the restaurant but the sun was till scorching hot shining directly to our table. The staff there was kind enough to let us sit at a shaded table first while we look through the menu.

Mojito & Caipirinha

The view was so amazing! And it was so sweet of Ivan to remember why I wanted to go to a rooftop bar in Bangkok in the evening and not at night 😍 #browniepointsearned

Look at how hot and bright it was that evening. Sorry to whoever that is in the photo!

Such a beauty but what a shame half of the twin tower was blocked by a newly constructed building.

For starters, we ordered guacamole, and at the time when I found out I still do not like it.
(Do take note I am VERY picky and also only have a selection of few vegetables that I actually take)

The Fuego Guacamole

Am not a big fan of guacamole but Ivan enjoyed it thoroughly. And the chips was amazing even just on its own.

Fuego Ceviche

I have never had ceviches before prior to this. It was something new (and raw) and surprisingly I find it okay (because I do not take sashimi). Heh.

Salt Baked Potato & Foie Gras

A must try and have! Even the sauce was amazing! It's been a few years since I had foie gras and thinking about it is enough to make my mouth water!

Rare French Beef Flank

Chewy and satisfying! Portion is enough to be shared by 2.

Pressed Potato

Crunchy and super filling! It was good but it took us a while to finish this because we ordered so many other dishes! Would be just nice to include this in with just other 3 dishes but how to do it when everything is so delicious!

We spend a total of 2.5 hours there that day. And all of that while witnessing one of the most beautiful sunset I have seen in Malaysia to date!

Legit no filter at all! It was around 7.15pm when the sky just went bright pinkish-orange with a tinge of purple and blue! It felt like mother nature knew it was my birthday because even the waiter there told us it's usually never like this! Or maybe he said that because he knew it's my birthday 🌚

Right after we were done with dinner, Ivan insisted on me to choose a dessert, like we MUST end the dinner with a dessert of my choice. Deep down, I was half wondering if he pre-ordered a cake or something but since he asked me to choose it myself, I doubted it. But to my surprise, it was all planned that whatever dessert that I choose, it will be decorated as my birthday 'cake'! Super efficient service as this was arranged prior when Ivan called to make a reservation.

Mini Ivano Magnum

Liquid nitrogen was poured all over the dessert when it was served to create the fog effect, and the waiter made sure I had my camera ready before doing it. 😂

Blessed and happy for the effort put in to make my birthday a special one, and even more grateful to have you in life ♥️

I FINALLY GOT AN INSTANT PHOTO PRINTER!

I've been looking to buy one since forever and I'm just so happy that I finally own one! It wasn't a cheap purchase, and super grateful for Ivan to have gotten it for me! I have always loved printed photos and photos meant so so much to me.

I actually got this for only RM599 on Lazada and it came with a padded bag, an acrylic frame, 2 packs of films, washy tape and an e-warranty. I also did some survey from the ones that are being sold in physical stores and they were going for between RM700-RM800. It was such a good bargain and here's the link if you are looking for one to purchase as well:

https://www.lazada.com.my/-i131059274-s146001801.html?spm=a2o4k.order_details.list_image..49b049fbBKpaQ4&urlFlag=true&mp=1

What I love most about the SP-2 is that it uses polaroid film! I never had a polaroid camera because I always find it a hassle to bring it to where I need to go, and also a film will be wasted if the photo do not turn out nice. Hence, I never seen the worth for myself to get one and when I knew about SP-2, it was just that perfect device that I would love to have.

Do check out my (very first) review video below for more details and also why I chose this one over the HP Sprocket which is the current hype and what everyone has been going for. Do pardon the awkwardness and nervousness. Fingers crossed for more better videos in the future!

Sincerely, Mels

A scenic route from Copenhagen

Arriving Hamburg at night, I had one of the worst culture shock upon arriving at a new city / country. Everyone was so rowdy and lots of drunken everywhere. And the fact that I had to brave through all that to get to our hotel wasn't a pleasant experience at all. We chose to stay near the station so we could just walk over when we arrive, but totally didn't expect the situation to feel so havoc at night!

We were tired, and it was getting late. We weren't sure where to go to grab some food for dinner. So we went back to the station after unloading our bags before we went out to hunt for the Speichertadt Bridge. We found a place that sells German sausage (or just sausage) which they call it wurst. It was a hilarious experience because we weren't sure which to order so we asked one of the locals there which was the best, and she pointed to the one she ordered but warned us that it's spicy. She was also kind enough to help us place our order before leaving the store.

Currywurst

It wasn't spicy at all (despite the name) for us including myself (because I can't really take spicy food)!

...and some local beer to accompany our Currywurst.

After dinner, we proceeded as plan to go for a quick walk in the cold and to locate the Speichertadt Bridge for some night photography. My family went all out on this for me knowing how excited I was when it comes to photography. Prior to our trip, I Googled on this bridge and saw soooo many nice shots taken by other photographers at night. However, when I got there, the whole place was illuminated by this purplish blue light which pretty much spoilt everything - at least for me. It looked a little better after some editing, but I was still rather disappointed.

Long exposure shot taken on Sony A5000

Check out the number of people were there to photograph this spectacular view!

Day 2

Fischmarkt Hamburg

There's more than just fish here as what the name suggested - there's other local delights, stalls selling clothes and souvenirs, and believe it or not - GOOD MUSIC! There was a live band performing rock n roll and people were just dancing to the beat. It was such as amazing experience witnessing that, and pretty much a good start to our Sunday!

More Currywurst!

Food hall with a live band performing on stage!

Ellentorsbrucke Bridge

We were walking to St Michael's Church Hamburg and stumbled across this beautiful scenery.

St. Michael's Church Hamburg

HafenCity Hamburg

Elbphilharmonie

It's actually a concert hall but we went in and up for the view instead 😂 Managed to get free entrance tickets and the visitors centre.

Alster Lake

We ended our day pretty early as we were all exhausted from going around the city the whole day. But it was our last night there, and didn't really want to waste it all entirely and decided to go to the Red Light District. It wasn't as eye opening as I thought it would be haha but it was enough for an experience!

Day 3

We spent our (supposedly) last day in Hamburg doing the remaining sight seeing and a bit of window shopping before our (supposedly) midnight train to Switzerland that night - more on this later!

Alsterarkaden

Rathaus - Hamburg City Hall

Located just opposite of the city hall, you'll find this area covered with green coloured glass roof - you may find some cheap souvenirs here!

Rathaushof

Dinner nearby our hotel. Came here for pork knuckles but they were sold out by the time we were there! Super bumped that we couldn't get a taste of it while we were there - so we thought.

So, earlier I had a few '(supposedly)' mentioned and here's the story. We were at Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (Hamburg main railway station) more than an hour before our overnight train departure time - 9pm. We were just waiting at an area where we could see the timing board. As time pass, we felt a little weird that other trains after 9pm started to appear on the board but not ours. We decided to check it out at one of the counter to only know that the train has been canceled due to a collapsed tunnel at Rastatt, Germany 3 weeks ago.

Part of us were relieved that we weren't there when it happened, but also frustrated that we weren't notify through e-mail or through any channels at all. The staffs then gave us information on an alternative route to get to Switzerland which includes 3 train transits and 1 bus ride that would take us about 11 hours in total! (The overnight train takes us about 12 hours but at least we will be served with bunk beds and breakfast, and no transit in between). We tried checking for flights to Switzerland but they were all too expensive by then. We didn't had much choice but to follow what has been advised. The staffs did not immediately offered us compensation, but they did eventually. We were compensated with a night stay in a 4 star hotel also just across the station, and free public transportation pass around the city for the night! By then, we were all exhausted to even go anywhere anymore but got another chance to try out pork knuckle as supper.
