It was a laid back Sunday and we were taking things rather slow on that day. As lazy as I was to even step out of the apartment to get food, I was tempted to visit a cafe. Oh, this was even before we went to LOKL (previous post), but I somehow manage to get that post out first even before I was done with this one. Haha. Anyways, I've heard and seen pictures of this place before but somehow never made a trip there prior to this. And so, we I suggested to dine there, and it was already 2.30pm when we arrived.

After we found a place to park a few shops away, we began searching for the entrance to the cafe. I was looking for something grand or at least obvious to lure customers in, but I was super surprised to see an entrance like this! A unique concept, but at the same time, I can't help but notice the stationery shop next to it as well. Side by side with the same entrance size, one of it seems to be getting more business than the other. A classic looking stationery shop, with dusty updated planners and diaries for sale, ran by just a single elderly lady staring out at the walkway as people enter the door next to her shop but not hers.

I don't know if I have ever mentioned this before, but I have a soft spot for senior citizen, especially those who still has to work to earn themselves a living. When we left the cafe, we popped by the stationery shop and got a few things - things which I may not necessarily need but just for the sake of giving some business to the elderly lady.

Anyways, back to Merchant's Lane...

There's more beyond the door but I was too shy to just walk around. Hehh

Interior was nice and cosy, but even though we were there at 2.30pm, there was still a queue which we waited for almost 30 minutes before a table was available.

Food & service was great, but as much as I hope to be able to give a 5 star review to every cafe that I went to, I have to say that this one felt slightly overpriced. But besides that, overall, it was still a wonderful experience.

I have been wanting to visit another cafe and I chose to try out LOKL which is situated in the city. It was a Sunday afternoon and traffic was rather insane for a weekend. Be mindful that there is no proper-in-front-of-cafe parking, and the nearest parking space was across the street which cost me RM11 for about 2 hours.

This is what I meant by no proper cafe parking as the cafe is situated along a main street. However, I still love the set up of the place as it's warm and cozy, just how I like it. Also, the entrance to it is rather small. A landmark to look out for is a budget hotel called BackHome. The cafe is right next to it.

We were there around 2.30pm but opted for the breakfast menu instead. They have different menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner which they have provided it from their main website.

Big Breakfast with an upgrade with basil & cheese omelette (RM31)

Fluffy Pancakes (RM18)

I have a thing for plain pancakes served with syrup. If you have the same taste as I do, you'll probably enjoy this!

Food was great, and ambience was fantastic. It wasn't crowded as well when we were there, not sure if it's because of the hour we were there but I love non overly crowded cafes so I didn't mind. Service was excellent and staffs were very polite and helpful. Will definitely return to this place again!

Earlier this month, my relatives from Australia were here over two weekends. They spent their time mostly in Penang as that is where my grandmother is currently at. April also happened to be my grandmother's birthday month. Occasions like these are surely not to be missed and there I was, traveling back and forth Penang - Ipoh - KL over two weeks and I am not complaining.

As I grow older, these moments became more precious to me and feeling homesick has been something rather constant and frequent that I've been feeling lately. Also in the quest of remembering why I loved blogging and how I started in the first place, here are some visuals of memories taken together with my family.

Balik Pulau Durian

Granduncle Michael

Balik Pulau Laksa

We've got to know that the famous Balik Pulau laksa has moved to the new market.

Balik Pulau Murals

While venturing the round island tour via cars, we stumbled upon one of the murals that has been pretty famous around the area recently. You may track and check out the rest of it here.

A beautiful view at one of the lookout point near Bao Sheng Durian Farm.

Teluk Bahang Dam

Lunch @ Hollywood Restaurant

I've blogged about this place that my family and I enjoy dining at. You may read about it here.

Their famous Hainanese Spring Roll.

Grandma's 83rd Birthday Dinner @ Chinese Recreation Club (CRC) Restaurant, Penang

Siblings love.

The following weekend, I returned home to Ipoh as everyone from Penang journeyed down for the weekend.

Pomelo Farm @ Ampang Jaya, Ipoh

Kampung Kacang Puteh, Ipoh

This is how you covert a 5 seater Honda CRV to a 7 seater. #youngestandshortest

Gunung Lang, Ipoh

Concubine Lane, Ipoh

Plan B, Ipoh

Yew Ming Teochew Porridge, Ipoh

Granduncle's Advance 80th Birthday Dinner @ 1919, Ipoh

Birthday kisses from the birthday boy to his sister. Seeing them happy makes me happy.

Time really do pass a lot more faster when you're having an amazing time. I can't wait to see my family again, and I hope you readers enjoyed reading this blog entry.

11 weeks left of being a university student

It is that phase of life again where I worry very much about the unknown and uncertainty of the future. I feel rather insecure about where my life is heading to after this, and the fact that I have not exactly found my field of interest even up to this point scares me a lot. I know there are a lot of articles and books to help discover myself, or even self evaluation tests that I can easily find online. But at the same time, part of me is still clinging on the hope that I can one day generate enough income and eventually have it as my full time career with things that I am passionate about.

At the same time, I am excited for the plans lined up this August and September. As excited as I am about it, it makes me feel agitated about it when plans can't be finalized. The word 'hope' comes into the picture again for this because as urgent as it is to get things confirmed, I can't help but to hang on to that slim chance of hope that things could become better and easier.

I have also recently took up a work from home part time job which pays me pretty decent for an undergraduate. Don't get me wrong, my parents still provide for me more than they should, but I am at the stage of life whereby I want to earn for myself be it for extra expenditure or to put into savings. However, I may have taken up this part time job at a wrong timing, because I seriously had no idea that the final semester would be THIS hectic. I mean, I knew I was going to be busy but it was just not as what I've expected. Opportunity doesn't come knocking twice, and I can say that it fits in rather well with how this job opportunity came to me. I just really hope that I will be able to juggle everything well, to keep in focus on my priorities and not let my past 5 semesters' effort to go to waste.

I am someone who gets her thoughts cluttered very easily when things can actually be done efficiently ONLY IF I am discipline enough to do so. This always lead myself to unnecessary stress, and lowers my confidence in excelling in things that I do. Unfortunately, this is pretty much what I am going through now. I keep telling myself that I have too many things to do, and I am stressed out, and that I am running out of time, and yet, here I am in this space.

It's now only week 3 of my final semester, and as I am typing this, I fell sick in class today. I woke up today with a very bad sore throat, which later became a really bad flu. As of date, I have a lot of work and assignments waiting to be completed but I don't know what it is that I am constantly tired and in need of long naps, which slows down my progress with getting things crossed out on my to-do list. This is like the worst time to fall sick, but I hope after this, I'll be healthy enough to brace through the remaining 11 weeks of the semester.

Fingers crossed that the weeks will only get better. After all, this is my last shot to excel, and the last few weeks to enjoy my life, with my friends, as a student.
