This is a super long overdue post, but better late than never right? Haha. Anyway, this was the morning before I had to fly back to KL. We initially wanted to try another cafe nearby for brunch but it was close when we got there. As we didn't know where else we should go, we drove around the area and eventually found Black Kettle, which was a really good choice! Nice ambience, good food and it's wheelchair friendly! My grandma was with us for brunch, hence, it was crucial for us to find a place where she could be pushed all the way to the table.

Upon entering the cafe, we were greeted with the pastry section before reaching our table.

A wide range of pastries to choose from and everything looks fresh!

More bread and buns being sold on these shelves which I initially thought were just decorative items.

I find it rather adorable how this shot includes an elderly lady smiling while looking at my direction.

Moving on to the most important part of this entry, THE FOOD!

Mr Benedict (RM22)

Samurai Chicken (RM26)

Smoked Duck Carbonara (RM28)

Big Breakfast (RM22)

Beef Bacon Chili Pancake (RM15)

I didn't try all of the dishes that we ordered, but everyone agreed it was really delicious! Worth the price that we paid, and definitely a place that we would come back in the future.

This was taken outside of Black Kettle and dad was wondering why am I taking a picture with 2 old aircond condenser. Haha.

This hipster cafe was initially found by my mum online! I really had no idea this place existed until she mentioned it to me. We then decided to come here for a evening tea on the second day of Chinese New Year.

The cafe is situated along Lebuh Victoria, which Waze has a pretty accurate location on it. The cafe isn't very visible from the outside as it's shaded by trees at the entrance. Hence, we missed it, and had to take another round. Also, I would personally advice to pay for your carpark along Lebuh Victoria as free parking is rather limited around the area. There's a lot of cyclist too as the place is rather near to Armenian Street. So, beware!

Upon entering, there's a coffee bar on the left.

Further back is where the tables and chairs are at. This picture pretty much shows all that there is of the place. It's a rather open concept, tables and chairs that are used reflects on how the olden days canteen looks like, and the overall environment gives you the ambience of a hipster looking canteen.

This shot was taken from the other end of the cafe, which you can clearly see the entrance from here too.

I love the details of the place although there's a high probability that all they did was repainted the old wooden windows. Haha. Oh, if I'm not mistaken, there are accommodations for rent above the cafe, just like Sekeping Kong Heng in Ipoh.

Mum & Dad.

As we were there just for drinks, I didn't take any shot of it. Hence, a cafe post without any food or beverage shots. Haha. Perhaps the next round when I am back there again, I'll definitely update this blog entry.

Stay tuned for more!

From where I sat,
I look to my left,
A couple reunite,
A family is once again full.

From where I sat,
I look at my family,
A goodbye awaits,
When I wish we just said hello.

From where I sat,
I checked the time,
It was passing too quickly,
Do they feel the same I wonder.

As I stood up,
My heart felt heavy,
I grabbed my bag,
And my eyes started to tear.

I said goodbye,
My mum hugged me,
My sister waved at me,
And my dad walked me to the gate.

I handed my ticket,
And I was let through,
When I turned around,
I wish I could just run back out.

I felt so alone,
I hated feeling this way,
I'm a big girl now,
This is life.

Sincerely, Mels.

During one of my short trips back to Ipoh, my mum, sister and I decided to try out the new hyped cafe called Purple Moon Lover in Canning Garden, Ipoh. What really captured my attention was the landscape as well as how they have built the place.

Upon entering, we were greeted by this huge display of cakes in all sizes and flavors, and also the counter where food orders are placed. I especially loved how they decorated the ceilings with greens!

Besides cakes, they have pastries too!

As for main meals, this is all that they serve - not sure if there'll be a menu expansion in the future. It's mostly Japanese cuisine and we enjoyed it very much.

After placing our orders, we were given our table number, 28, which is also my birth date as well as my lucky number. Definitely a must to photograph, and it's so cute how they put it all together!

Udon Soup With Seaweed

Teriyaki Chicken

Didn't manage to take a lot of photos as the place was rather packed that day, and also our time was mostly spent on catching up with each other. Definitely a good place for both food and environment!

I have been (still) busy lately, even after returning from Bangkok, Thailand 5 days ago. However I am still glad that I manage to squeeze in some of my relaxing / free time to edit my vlogs, pictures, and now this blog post!

I was lucky to be able to capture such a beautiful shot of the city upon arriving in Bangkok. As opposed to when we were returning to Malaysia, the sky was rather cloudy as it has been raining the whole day.

Before I go into the details of my full story (and hopefully tips) of my trip to Bangkok, this post will just be the itinerary of the 3D3N trip. Well, technically we flew on the night of 3rd November, and maximized the next 3 days. So, it's a lot like a 3D3N rather than a 4D3N trip to me.

Due to the passing of The King of Thailand, we weren't sure what was operating and what was not. We did some research on a few point of interest before we left for the trip, but majority of it was really spontaneous which we planned like the night before or even on the go.

ITINERARY

  • Arrived in Bangkok and checked into The Residence Rajtaevee Hotel by midnight (Bangkok time)

  • 5.15pm: Headed to Erawan Shrine
  • 6pm: Chill & relax in Gaysorn Shopping Centre
  • 7pm: Headed to Central World
  • 9pm: Food street dinner / supper outside of Central World
  • 11pm: Walked along a small night market outside of Platinum Mall on the way back to hotel

5th November 2016
  • 11am: Left hotel to Mo Chit BTS station to get to Chatuchak Market
  • 3.30pm: Took a cab to Wat Pho
  • 5pm: Walked over to The Grand Palace and took a slow walk all the way to Khaosan Road
  • 6pm: Arrived at Khaosan Road

  1. The timings given are just a rough estimate as I can't remember the exact time of every single thing that we did
  2. Bangkok is an hour behind Malaysia
Stay tuned for more, my fellow readers!

I am back with another cafe post to share with you readers! I've been wanting to blog about my visit but I have not found the time to do so. I'm now in the midst of meeting assignment datelines as well as preparing for an upcoming midterm. I'm felling so done with this phase of uni life but at the same time, I am not looking forward to working either!

ANYWAYS.....

I am suppose to be sharing about my visit to Breakfast Thieves. So, here it is!

I got there at about 1.30pm (around that time), the place was packed with people and there was a waiting list! People were crowding outside of the cafe and chairs were provided for those who are waiting, however, limited. I waited for about 30-45 minutes before being seated inside.

As for the menu, there's main meals, drinks and desserts. There's limited choices of main meals for us to choose from (there's like less than 10 choices), but they're really generous with their portion. I was a little indecisive of what I wanted mainly because I didn't want to order something that's gonna be served with tons of vegetables and I end up not enjoying it. At the same time, there were a few main meals that are spicy which I can't take.

Mr. Terry Benedict (RM29)

Every single time when I see such nice presentation, the first thing that comes into my mind would be "How do I eat this?". Not because I didn't feel like ruining the presentation, but the mixture of everything which looks like a mountain to me makes it a challenge for me to eat it decently. Haha. That aside, I really enjoyed this dish and it's by far one of the best combination of ingredients served together. There were like 2 of everything, but I only managed to finish up one. I was already feeling pretty full when I was 3 quarter way finishing up the first one.

The Legend (RM25)

I didn't really eat this one as it was spicy for me. The presentation made me thought this was Mac and Cheese! Hahaha. It turned out to be spicy baked eggs and a whole lot of other stuff in it!

An out of frame and failed flat-lay shot. Haha

The patio side of Breakfast Thieves. I guess if we were okay with being seated on the patio, we could have gotten a table way sooner. But the weather was just really really hot that day and air conditioning was what we were desperate for.

The mandatory staircase shot when visiting Breakfast Thieves! It's just so fascinating how simple things like a cement staircase can become a famous OOTD spot. Before visiting the cafe, I thought this staircase is part of Breakfast Thieves but it is actually located opposite of the cafe but still within the area.

Shameless advertising but yay to new clothes from Zalora! And, if you're a first time shopper on Zalora, get yourself a 15% discount upon checkout using the code ZBAPQAT0!

That's all from me for now! There's some exciting stuff that's coming soon but fingers crossed that everything will work out okay! Stay tune!

Greetings! I know that I've been away from this platform for a while and that's mainly because there's nothing for me to blog. My final year in university has just begun and assignments are already pilling up very quickly! Not to mention, I'm also in the midst of hunting for a placement for my internship next January. If there's anyone who's looking for interns or knows any company that is looking for interns, please contact me! I do have a few places in mind but as for now, there's nothing that I can do because the university has still yet to release our letters to us and it's going to be a challenge to apply without it. Fingers crossed that it's not going to take them too long before everything starts becoming last minute.

Anyway, apart from my usual (boring) routine, I had my hair done today. I was recommended by my friend to be a hair model for today and I accepted the offer because I get to colour my hair for free! Haha. I can't imagine paying the amount that saloons will usually charge to achieve these colours and the fact that it's going to probably fade off really quickly really turns me off every time I think of it.

So, before anything happens, I took some photos on my own (duh) courtesy of my tripod and camera timer. Haha.

Outdoor

Indoor

As usual there's this difference in colour when I'm outdoor vs indoor. I was told that they'll be dyeing violet colour for me but apparently that was done yesterday on someone else. Hence, they gave me olive green. Best part? They promised to re-colour my hair to either dark purple / violet once the colour has faded!

However, my current hair condition is really dry. Mainly due to the bleaching that was done prior to the dye and then they curled it with a curling iron at the end of the whole process which usually makes my hair even drier. I am not looking forward to washing my hair either as I can foresee really bad tangles and I'll probably take an hour to shower tomorrow just because of it. Well, I am not complaining since this has been something I've been wanting to do for a long time but I never had the opportunity to. Guess I just gotta invest a little more on treatment.

Anyway, here's just a short update about my (hair) life. Well, sorta. Haha. Hopefully I'll be back with something really interesting soon! Have been thinking on making piano covers but I just remembered my camera isn't with me currently. Guess all is planned out unknowingly to make me focus on my university work first. Priorities! Haha.

Signing off. xx

Sincerely, Mels
